if you want something different than wordpress you should get a real web site editor program: I use easywebeditor and it is very good: I have both a website and a blog (I placed a wordpress blog within a subfolder of the website)

There are many great WordPress themes that work really well for a blog that you would like to work as a website. Some of the best I have found are from SPress. They have great user support and its very reasonable ($60) compared to many others out there. I have a link to their site on mine if you are interested.

You can use free Templates as well but I have found these to have many great options for producing a blog that more mimics a website. Im in the process of upgrading my blog with it as we speak.

Hope you check them out.

Wordpress does everything for you, and you really can't get any easier.. All you need to do after installation is to write your posts or pages, right within the Wordpress admin. And find a theme you like if you cannot design it yourself.

If you want to attempt to design your own theme, about the only thing you can use is Notepad or a text editor. Other html programs can be used but you need to know what you're doing, so you write clean code. HTML programs are not known for this.

You do need to know HTML in order to create pages, whether you use a program or not.

Read the pages under Design and Layout

Events-Calendar should fit your needs. It uses a widget though, not sure if you can place it on a post or page, just sidebar.

The only way I know of, other than setting up wamp on my local machine, is to install wordpress in another folder, and work on the theme that way. Name that folder something weird, and password protect it.

you need a running server (apache/php/mysql). [apache is reccommended, but not required)
It might be easier to sign up for a free hosting plan, so you don't have to think about the server-part

However if you'd prefer to have wordpress on your own computer:
http://php.net/manual/en/install.php
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/windows.html
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/windows-installation.html

I took it that you're a windows user, if you have a linux distribution on you computer, you should be able to find these software packages in the repositories

Hi, WordPress won't work like a desktop program. You need to have a web server. Most of the popular web servers have a program called Fantastico Deluxe in their cPanel. You can install WordPress easily from there. For detailed instructions, see
